Questions Twin Moms Get Asked

Actually, this is from a blogpost that I came across and I feel like I wanna write about this too. But the original title was “17 Annoying Questions Twin Moms Get Asked by Complete Strangers.”

Annoying questions?! Hahha… When I went through the list then oh okay, it’s more of what is called ‘typical questions’ that we get asked in public when they see the twins, and because it’s typical, it’s tiring for us to answer the same thing every time and so it’s annoying. That’s why! Haha..

But come on.. When it comes to this matter, I choose not to sweat the small stuff and just welcome them as a friendly conversation.

And today, I’m in the questionnaire mood again so lets!!

1) ARE THEY TWINS?

What is it that’s annoying about this? It’s the easiest question ever!
“Yes, they are.” *smile*

2) ARE THEY IDENTICAL?

This is interesting! Throughout the pregnancy we were told that they were non-identical but when they’re born, the doctor told us that there was only one placenta so that means they’re identical.

What happened was, we went to a private clinic for the first checkup that turned out to be a shocking finding of twins so the doctor immediately referred me to the hospital. The clinic doctor remarked them as non-identical based on the first ultrasound. However, the hospital checkup was then scheduled at 10 weeks and at that time, it was already too late to detect the placenta clearly so they were then identified as non-identical all along. A kind of surprise to us after the delivery!

3) HOW TO TELL THEM APART?

Donna has a birthmark on her right hand since birth but now it’s faded. They have moles but not on open body parts so yeah, it’s confusing sometimes but as for family members, we do recognize the faces.

But you know what, in hustle and bustle sometimes, I don’t even know which one I was handling at the moment. At times I found myself asking;
“Who is this I’m showering?”,
“Whose butt I’m cleaning?”
“Is this Donna or Dynda?”
Whatever I don’t care! The point is just to get things done! Lol..

4) DO THEY FIGHT?

OMG, all the time!

5) ARE THEY NATURAL?

Yes they are! Even the pregnancy was completely natural and unexpected.
But to my surprise, there were friends who thought that we planned the babies. Because we already have 3 boys in a row so they thought we really wanted girls so we purposely made it to be pregnant of twin girls. Wow… never in mind! Haha…

6) ARE YOU GOING TO HAVE THEM NATURALLY?

As a total caesarean mother even for a singleton, let alone these twins… of course not.

7) WERE YOU SHOCKED?

Totally!!!

8) DID YOU WANT TWINS?

How do I put this… I think, it’s more of something that I want but I didn’t think it’s possible. Maybe it was just a dream but not a wish. Just like any other people who are fascinated of seeing twins and for an instant, feeling like having ones of their own. Just for an instant!
But I did want a daughter at least. That’s for sure.

9) WHEN IS YOUR DUE DATE BECAUSE YOU’RE REALLY BIG?

I guess I didn’t get this question because I popped prematurely. At 7 months, I already looked like a full-term singleton pregnancy. I couldn’t imagine of growing another month to the estimated labor! Phew…

10) AND YOUR DOCTOR ALLOWED YOU?

Allowed it or not, it happened!
But I will never forget the moment I was about to give birth to these twins. I got scolded badly by the nurse after knowing of my short-gap caesarean history (one-year apart), you know what she said?
“Why did get pregnant so early? Why didn’t you plan?? Your uterus could be ruptured, and you might die you know?? Die! Die!
In. The. Eleventh. Hour. Of. My. C-sect. Operation.
Thanks nurse, that was nice.

11) DO TWINS RUN IN YOUR FAMILY?

At least this is one question I am annoyed of.
Because I never knew any twins in my families but when I told my mom that I was carrying twins, she told me that it’s our genetic as there were twins in our extended family. Like, really? It’s hard to believe as I never knew their existence.

So if I answer yes, I kinda doubt it.
But if I answer no, people would be so impressed of us. “No twins genetic but still can get twins? Wow!”
Err… so yeah, I don’t like this question! Haha…

12) OMG I WANT TO HAVE TWINS JUST LIKE YOU

Honestly, in my heart I’d say… “You have no idea what you’re wishing for..”

13) YOU HAVE A BOY AND GIRL LUCKY I HOPE I DO TOO SO I ONLY NEED TO BE PREGNANT ONCE

I got two girls but yeah when it comes to being a twin-mom, I do feel I was so lucky to be chosen to experience this privilege. Indeed it’s a privilege. I Thank You, God!

14) I HAD MY KIDS BACK TO BACK SO IS LIKE HAVING TWINS

Hell no…! I also got my first two born just a year apart and I can swear that no, they’re not same like having twins. Having twins is wayyyyyyyyyy different kind of an experience that even after having three kids already, I still felt like a new mom again.

15) IS IT HARD RAISING TWINS?

Only God knows………………………………………………………………………………..
At this time of this phase of two-year olds, it’s really, really, really hard…
I just hope things will get better soon and they’ll be easier to handle. Aminnn!
Anyhow, it is also unfair to not appreciate the joy that comes together with the chance of raising twin girls. The fighting and wrestling with each other that give me the headache is also the same interaction that charmed me into melted ice. They’re just so cute, MasyaAllah!

16) HOW DO YOU SURVIVE?

It’s not that I survived. It’s just time that passed by from an hour to another and another and I’m just struggling on every tick of the clock. I just become whatever I got to become. A hulk, an angel, a monster, a headmaster, a ducklings mommy or a beauty and the beast at the same time? You name it! I’m all that.

But yeah, I always told myself that The Help is Near. There’s always help from all around me, expectedly and unexpectedly, Alhamdulillah. I will try to recognize every ease that comes in every storm. Sometimes, The Help is within myself, where I could feel calm and composed even when it’s truly challenging. Or rather, what else could I do? Cry! Tears do help me survived. At least that’s one of the ways…

17) I’M GOING TO SAY A PRAYER FOR YOU

I’m taking every casual “May-Allah-ease” prayers seriously from everyone who bothers to say it to me. I’m praying on top of your prayer to me for Allah to grant it upon me and upon all of you. Need that so much!!

I guess that’s all for now. Thanks for reading 🙂

As ever,
SALZY
