Pregnancy @ Week 21 : 4th Check-up

Hello Readers! So sorry for the late update on my last checkup. Two weeks overdue! I actually have written it earlier but its all always unfinished. But its finally done now for your reading….

Today in history we became the very first patient that stepped into the clinic before anyone else. You know what time? 7:15am ocayy! Haha… Because it’s Friday with too many things to be settled in the first half, so we went out early lah…too early pulak tu. Registration counter was still closed and will only open at 8:00am. Plenty of time! But café and coffee house sume pon x bukak lg. Yg ade pon 7e. So we just bought light breakfast and waited until almost 8 and went up to the O&G area again.

Registration starts at 8:00am but consultation usually starts at 9:00am. So we still gotta wait for another hour. But when we were waiting for the registration and pusing2 around that area taking pictures and main handphone, I saw my doctor’s around. Dr. Noor Aini tu..She’s in already. Awalnyerr…

My Peneman @ Ayah! =)

So after the registration, we went to the doctor’s room, even the assistants pon blom ade lg. Fine lah, we’d wait until 9. But then, because the doc has seen us around a few times, she just called us in and proceed with the check-up. Ahh, baikk doctor! Ultrasound machine pon blom on lg. Urine and weight pon blom amek lg. Usually it’s all done before the consultation because of the long waiting list. But she’s willing to entertain us early. Credit! 🙂

It was just a brief session, and this is how my baby looks like at his 20 weeks 😉 :

See the hand is so obvious! Doc asked us to count the fingers. All fives J And then she scanned through all parts making sure there’s no any ‘ketumbuhan’ or anything suspicious. Alhamdulillah, it looks all fine..insyaAllah its fine..Ameen..

The above of my baby that looks like a ‘cloud’ is the placenta (uri). While the black color in the middle is my amniotic fluid a.k.a ‘air ketuban’. My doc said, if the air ketuban banyak, meaning = good. Meaning, ur baby is in a good condition inside and tak sempit.

What makes us smiling even wider this time is that, there was a point, our baby was like facing the screen..so it really looks like he’s looking at us! I can see his eyes, nose, mouth and even ears! Well yea…it’s blurry but we can detect yea we can detect..by instinct :p and with doc’s guidance of course. Because usually we look at him from the side. Now it’s face to face. It’s sooooo sweet! Aww… :’)

Done with the consultation and the next appointment will be one month from now – 10th December 2012. Before we’re off to work, of course I din’t forget my to-do’s that I’ve listed in my previous post.

1) 4D Ultrasound – I read the ads around the clinic area that the 4D Ultrasound will be done by the Radiology department and we got to book for an appointment there at….level one I think. But then, just after the check-up and we’re setting up the next appointment date, the assistant told me that –

“for next checkup, if you want to do normal consultation like this, you may come on Saturday. But, if you want to “ambil gambar baby”, you have to come on weekdays,”

Me : “Ambil gambar baby? You mean the 4D Scan?”

Assistant : “Aaa yes…because that one is not done here (doc’s room). We have to call the ____ (I don’t know what), they will come up and bla bla bla (I don’t catch what she said) and they will take your baby’s picture. But that’s on weekdays only la..and there’s gonna be a separate charges of RM100.”

Hahaha….she calls it “ambil gambar baby” …haha..so funny! So cute! So I reconfirm that we don’t need to go to the radiology department or what and then just set the appointment. Its Monday, 10th December 2012…. OMG I CAN’T WAIT!!! 😀

Done one thing, next is about the Antenatal Class. Okay, this is sad. If I’m not mistaken, no, I AM NOT mistaken that I did see the notice before (since my first visit here) on the Antenatal Class (or they call it Parentcraft Class) here in SunMed – done every month for 3 sessions on the first 3 Saturdays of every month. I didn’t take note but I’m really sure they have it in December and I’ve been planning to attend it in December. But thennnn….now…. I asked them…they said…. “The last session for this year is in November. None will be held in December.”  —- What!! Oh no…  😦

Even for November one, the 1st session has started last week. If I were to slot in, I’ve missed a few topics of the whole course. It’s my first pregnancy…I won’t wanna miss a single thing, no? And worse, the fee is RM300 per couple for all the 3 sessions. But it doesn’t mean it’s RM100 per session. Bcoz if we’re picking only selected session, they will charge us RM150 per session. Meaning, I still got to pay RM300 for only 2 sessions. What a wastee… The personnel suggested me to call the respective department and ask about the openings in 2013. Maybe I can join the January one. But…..hmm…. its kinda late already. There will be topics on pregnancy that my gynae said – the class is to teach you pregnant. So jgn la pergi bile dah nak abis pregnant. See….5-6 months pregnancy is just nice right! See…I’ve well-planned it! Butt….hmm… *upset*.

So I went online and search for classes in other hospitals. I remember Columbia Asia did open Antenatal class and promote it on facebook before…and…I found this! :

It’s on 15th December 2012! Okay, just nice…and I think I got no choice. So I called them right away and booked for two seats. Done!

Well….klu ikutkan hati. I must wanna join the class in SunMed itself. Because I’m planning to deliver my baby there. But what to do..there’s no way for us and also, actually, the class they arrange is quite not-practical and yet, pricey! Here’s the comparison. For one Antenatal course in SunMed, they are arranging 3 classes, done in three weekends in a row. That equals to 12 hours! But in Columbia Asia, with the topics covered are fairly the same, everything is compressed into 3 hours only. What makes it so lengthy in SunMed? Or kat Columbia Asia nie ala2 kadar aje? Hmm… don’t mind lah. I would prefer to attend a more detailed class on this but, that 3 weekends requirement is not that practical. Not practical for the daddy laa especially! So, let’s just take it for one-shot for all. Save time, and save money as well because the fee for Columbia is only RM50! Save RM250 there…plenty! So I’ll definitely update about the class later. Stay tuned! 😉

Oh yea, one more to-do’s! Maternity/delivery package in SunMed – here’s what I got. They just gave an estimation range like this :

For Normal Delivery, 4k – 6k. For Caesarean, 7k – 9k. That would include the room charges and all lah.. Plus/minus. Quite expensive right… *jgn lah kene operate..huhu*. They provided to me the leaflet on the room charges. I’ll post it here soon.

That’s all my updates on my 4th check-up session.

Mom! =)

Pregnancy @ Week 17 : 3rd Check Up (Part 2 – Q&A Session)

  • Issue 1 – Kad Merah Klinik Kerajaan.

Bile pregnant je org akan tanye “Dah buat kad merah?” Or buku merah or kad pink or whatever you call it. I’m engaging a routine checkup at a private hospital and I don’t keep any of my pregnancy record with me. I saw the clinic maintains my details in one file but what’s given to me are only the appointment card, and also the ultrasound printscreen. That’s all. So some said you must have that. Some said not necessarily kad merah but at least any record for reference for any other hospitals in case of emergency (terberanak kat tempat lain plak) you got to be admitted not at your current hospital. Some said if the hospital don’t have specific book, ask a copy of the doctor’s record every time coming for checkups (memandaiiii aje!)

So that was the conflict so I asked doc. Answer – here in SunMed, they don’t give the details to patients. If you wanna go to other private hospitals, just go, no problem. But if you wanna go to GH for delivery, they won’t allow you if you’re without their kad merah. So if you plan to deliver at GH, you must buat your kad merah. If you wanna deliver at other private, kad merah is not necessary. If you don’t have kad merah and you got to be referred to GH, private will provide referral letter. Haaa…. Like that. If if if….

  • Issue 2 – Long distance travelling right after discharged

I lived in Sunway,PJ and am planning to be in confinement at my Mama’s house in JB. If I deliver my baby here in SunMed, would it be ok for me to travel in car for 3 to 4 hours all the way to JB right after discharged? Would it be dangerous? Would it be any bleeding or whatever?

Doc said – ”It’s ok, no problem, yes you can. Many ppl did that anyway. There are even ppl who travel by plane, straight to airport right after discharged. – That is if you have a natural birth (normal).”

But if you go thru caesarean, you have to come back for follow-ups after 10 days. So cannot balik kampong rightaway. Clarified.

  • Issue 3 – Serious dizziness

One of the symptoms in my 4th month of pregnancy is serious dizziness. No more nausea like in the first trimester but I feel dizzy like ALL THE TIME for the past two weeks can you imagine? Ok, not all the time but most of the time, seriously. L And being pregnant I know we can’t simply take any pills/pain killers. Sakit pon, tahan je lah.. so I asked doc and she said it’s all common. Until you reach certain phase of pregnancy it will fade. So now just bear with it, get rest or if you can’t stand it, you can take panadol. Panadol ONLY. The doctor is quite strict on the medication and she again stressed that I can’t simply take any pills/pain killers. Those drugs may defect your baby. Aaaaa takut! It’s ok lah doctor. I would rather just tahan this sakit pening kepala than taking any pills that can be risky. Huhu…

From what I read, as the pregnancy goes on, so does the tummy. The speedy expansion of the tummy (and body weight as well) might affect the way we balance our body because we are adapting with the new centre of gravity of our body. Yeah, that makes sense. Because my tummy has started gaining attention..those who don’t know I’m pregnant can already tell that I am. Other than that, it’s also because of heart that pumps more blood, the blood pressure and so on…so your organs are adjusting with the roller coasters inside. Still, it’s most unlikely that we will be all black-out and fall. Mine’s not until that bad. So just relax….and sabarrr….

  • Issue 4 – Other pregnancy supplements

Because we’re talking about pills restriction and so on, I came to ask her on other pregnancy products (there’s a bunch in the markets and online!). Again, she doesn’t allow her patients to take any other supplements than what she prescribed. Whatever that the hospital gives you is actually enough. Even some of those non-hospital products, got banned! So, clarified. So, xyah lah nak beli2 mcm2 product tambahan kat pasaran tu. We might not know the little possible side effects unless we do thorough research before taking it. I’m not that gigih. But for those whose taking any other supplements, of course it’s all up to individual, yeah? Later in the next post I’ll share with you the only Vitamins I’m taking for my pregnancy.

  • Issue 5 – Weight

What I knew about target of weight gaining during pregnancy is about 0.5kg a week = 2kg a month (+/-). After the fasting month and entering the second trimester, I gained better appetite and started to see my weight increment. Today, I gained 3kg+ from the previous month. Hee…! Doc said she doesn’t observe my weight..she just monitors the weight of my baby. Because I have a small physical so weight shouldn’t be an issue. Only that I have to jump over 50kg within this pregnancy. Ohhh I see….insyaAllah I can reach that in these few months. J

  • Issue 6 – The First Kicks?

Huhu…..this is what playing in my mind lately. When is baby gonna start kicking?? Penat tggu penat concentrate. I saw your legs already but tak kick mom pon? I even asked my hubby to listen at my tummy. Xde pon?? Huhu…

Me, ”Doc, when’s the baby start kicking?”

Doc, “There, its been kicing already. So active.”

Me, “What? But I never feel anything?”

Doc, “It’s not about when the baby starts kicking. It’s when YOU FEEL the kicks.”

Ohhhh……really…. I see…. Aaa…..this is tricky! I think sometimes I feel something inside but is that a kick? How is it actually? Aaaaa I don’t know! Conflict..conflict… hehehe…. It’s okay, take ur time baby. Or I’m the one who should take my time? Because this is my very first pregnancy. So I really don’t know how’s it like.. It’s okay…this is my journey! J According to doc, the latest I should be feeling the kicking is at 24 weeks. So it’s about 7 weeks from now insyaAllah I’ll feel it. Come on baby! Your dad is a good striker so come on, show your talent! :p Kesian baby he must be struggling inside! 😀

Not me. Just gambar hiasan. =p

Yeahh…. That is all the Q&A session in my third pregnancy checkup just for sharing. If you wanna add up anything you know about my confusion, pls do, thank you! 🙂
